Community involvement at Chertsey High School

We are proud to be an inclusive, community school serving primarily the Chertsey and Addlestone communities. We will not accept the low ambitions or expectations that exist among some parts of the community. We want to open the minds of our students to possibilities and inspire them to believe they can achieve amazing things, whatever profession they choose. We recognise that our students are the next generation's lawyers, journalists, teachers, charity leaders, artists, doctors and small business owners. We recognise our position as a school to be an anchor organisation in the community. Just like how an anchor keeps a ship steady in rough waters, an anchor organization provides stability and support to its community or network.

What is the outward-looking approach?

We have adopted an outward-looking approach to actively seek to understand and address the needs, challenges, and opportunities of the wider community and overcome any barriers that may be presented. We recognise that learning doesn't stop at the school gates. Why does Chertsey High value community involvement?

At Chertsey High School we believe that the school, parents, and the community should work together to promote the health, well- being and learning of all students. When the school actively involve parents and engage community resources they are able to respond more effectively to the health-related needs of students. Community involvements foster partnerships among schools, family and community groups, and individuals. These partnerships result in sharing and maximising resources. And they help students develop healthy behaviours and promote healthy families.

Chertsey High School’s promise to the community

Chertsey High School will adopt procedures relative to the promotion of the school environment that is conducive to learning and supports strong family and community partnerships. Chertsey High School will:

• Strive to involve parents and family members of all ages and grade levels.
• Strive to provide parent educational activities throughout the school year to help parents support their children’s learning.
• Frequently communicate school performance, student progress, personalised learning strategies, and academic opportunities, communicating this through paper copies as well as online parent communication systems.
• Work with agencies and businesses to support community based developmental activities that prepare young people with transition into secondary school, promoting on-going achievement.
• Promote collaboration among parents, schools, and community on school improvement and student achievement projects.
• Strive to harness all available community resources, including but not limited to organisations, businesses, talented individuals, natural resources and technology, to engage each student in achieving the necessary skills and knowledge and;
• Will encourage business partnerships to assist students in the successful transition to employment or further education.
