Starting GCSEs is such an incredible step for our Year 10 students. Being able to explore a range of new, or old, subjects in greater depth, alongside the additional responsibility that GCSEs bring give us an exciting opportunity to achieve bigger and better things.

Students have the opportunity to explore subjects they have never completed before or choose subjects which they have previously studied in Key Stage 3. Whichever Options the GCSE students have chosen, we are able to explore a subject and its content in greater depth, with increased number of lessons in Options Subjects, and a step up to meet the Key Stage 4 curriculum.

PSHE and PE remain core, non-assessed subjects for our Year 10s, with topics such as Healthy Lifestyles, Mortgages and Healthy Relationships learnt about in a safe and well-informed space. Students continue to study English, Maths, Science and French or Spanish, along with either History or Geography. We believe that our EBacc route opens doors for our students at Chertsey High School and enables them to access whichever further education route they may choose.

We are also able to continue to offer a range of experiences to complement our offering to our students. This year, Year 10 will be our first year group to be able to partake in a week-long Work Experience placement, which will support them to understand the challenges of the modern workplace, and to inspire them for future career choices.

Finally, alongside all of the wonderful opportunities and experiences, we continue to work with our Year 10s to teach them about the values of Knowledge, Determination and Love. This year, we will be working with our motto- 'Action is the key to success'. We want our Year 10s to take their learning in to their own hands, and become resilient, engaged and resourceful learners, ready to take on the next steps in their educational pursuits.
