Duke of Edinburgh

We are pleased to offer the opportunity for any year 9 students to start the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, or year 10 to start the Silver award. This can be a life changing experience, fun time with friends, an opportunity to discover new interest and talents. A tool to develop essential skills for life and work. A recognised mark of achievement; respected by all employers.

There are four sections of DofE to complete. They involve helping the community/environment, becoming fitter, developing new skills, planning, and training for and completing an expedition. Achieving the award isn’t about being first. It is about setting personal challenges and pushing personal boundaries. The Duke of Edinburgh programme will enable our students to have fun, make friends, improve their self-esteem and build confidence.

They will gain essential skills and attributes for work and life such as:

  • Resilience
  • Problem-solving
  • Team-working
  • Communication and drive
  • Enhancing CV
  • University and job applications.

Everyone should have an adventure in their life and the Duke of Edinburgh gives you the taste for it. Going outside your comfort zone, trying new things, visiting different places, meeting new people – these are all character building experiences that set you on an exciting life journey. The Duke of Edinburgh is such a respected achievement that actually changes things and people for life.

The Duke of Edinburgh award encompasses our 3 core values at Chertsey High School of willing to learn knowledge to help us move through challenges. Pushing yourself and having the determination to meet the challenges. Working as part of a team that show the love that make every team player wanted, cherished and valued. Most of all, the award is a valuable opportunity for our students to earn a widely-respected qualification while having fun and making treasured memories along the way.

 Silver Award

The Silver award can work as a continuation of DofE for those that enjoyed Bronze, or as an introduction to those that missed the opportunity the first time around. This award is designed to give you more time to work on improving your community, and yourself, as well as taking you into more exciting an unfamiliar territory on the expedition.
