Education has the power to change everything. At Chertsey High School, we aim to ensure that every child gets the best deal in every lesson, every interaction and every experience of every day in school.

Supporting Every Student to Thrive

Our mission is to build a thriving, inclusive community where every student is empowered through Knowledge, Determination and Love. We are committed to high expectations, academic achievement and personal development, providing an ambitious, well-sequenced curriculum that enables every student to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need for their next steps.

Our recent Ofsted inspection recognised the inclusive culture of the school. Inspectors found that pupils are polite, happy and ambitious, develop warm relationships with staff and each other, and feel that they belong and are valued. Pupils reported feeling cared for and confident that staff will support them if they have concerns.

We understand that some pupils experience barriers to learning and that these can affect their educational outcomes. Our approach is rooted in understanding individual needs, recognising pupils' strengths and ensuring that barriers are identified and addressed effectively. Pupils who are disadvantaged, have special educational needs and/or disabilities, or experience other barriers to learning are a high priority for our leaders and staff.

High-quality teaching and strong relationships are central to our approach. Alongside this, we use Pupil Premium funding strategically and in an evidence-informed way to provide additional support for disadvantaged pupils. This includes support designed to strengthen attendance, remove barriers to learning, improve access to the curriculum and ensure that pupils can participate fully in school life.

Our approach is complemented by a strong programme of personal development and enrichment. Ofsted recognised the quality of our personal development curriculum, including pupils' learning about mental health, keeping safe, consent, democracy and respect. Pupils also benefit from a wide range of clubs, trips, visits and other enrichment opportunities, with leaders working to remove barriers to participation.

We also place a strong emphasis on preparing students for their futures. Our careers programme gives pupils opportunities to learn about different careers and the qualifications they need, meet employers and education providers, undertake work experience and access specialist careers advice. Additional support is provided for disadvantaged pupils and pupils with SEND to help them progress towards ambitious destinations.

Our key priorities

  • High-quality teaching and learning - ensuring that teaching builds secure knowledge over time and that assessment is used precisely to identify and address gaps in understanding.
  • Language, literacy and foundational knowledge - strengthening reading, writing, spelling, and mathematics so that all students can access the wider curriculum successfully.
  • Attendance, behaviour and belonging - maintaining high expectations, strong relationships, and a positive school culture in which every student feels safe, valued, and ready to learn.
  • Personal development and wellbeing - providing a rich programme that develops pupils' knowledge, confidence, character and understanding of the wider world.
  • Inclusion and targeted support - ensuring that disadvantaged pupils and those with additional barriers to learning receive effective, individualised support and can participate fully in school life.
  • Enrichment and future pathways - providing opportunities beyond the classroom and ensuring that every student receives the guidance and support needed for ambitious next steps.

Ofsted further recognised strong practice in attendance and behaviour and personal development, alongside effective provision for pupils with SEND and disadvantaged pupils in many areas of school life. We are committed to building on these strengths and continuing to improve the precision and impact of support for disadvantaged pupils and classroom adaptations.

At Chertsey High School, success means more than academic achievement. It means every student feeling seen, supported, included and ambitious for their future, while developing the knowledge, determination and confidence to reach their potential.
