I am delighted to welcome you to this insight into our ‘extra ordinary’ school where I have adopted a simple maxim.
“If it is not good enough for my own children, it is not good enough for students at Chertsey High School”.
We are a non-faith school which welcomes children from different faiths and non-faith backgrounds but we have strong Christian principles and we expect all children, staff and stakeholders (our parents, carers and Governing Body members) to respect them. Our vision is underpinned by our Christian principles and values of knowledge; determination and love. These values are shared by all staff, governors and students, inspiring all that we do. Ultimately we aim for all our students to leave Chertsey High School as life-long learners demonstrating Curiosity, Aspiration, Resilience, Respect and Equality.
Each child at Chertsey High School is unique, they are loved and valued. They deserve the best and that is what we aim to give them. They are our greatest ambassadors and they are supported by a team of staff united in encouraging, guiding, motivating and challenging each one of them to be the best they can be. ‘The Chertsey High Way’ is about saying to our students tell us about your dreams and we will help you fulfil them - there is no ceiling to your ambitions here.
Our aim is to prepare students to achieve academically and socially for the life and careers ahead of them. As parents, we wish our children to grow up to lead fulfilled lives, enjoy healthy lifestyles and make a positive contribution to the wider world. At Chertsey High School we want nothing less. We want to make sure that every child can contribute fully and positively to society.
In order to achieve this, we place a strong emphasis on a traditional approach to education, where respect and discipline contribute to success in examinations. Core subjects including English and Maths are crucial to your child’s future life chances and are given top priority in our curriculum.
We have created a school where we will encourage children to develop a strong set of values for life; the knowledge in order to make right choices in life; determination to never settle for second best; respect for others; a responsible attitude towards the community and pride in themselves.
What unites our talented teachers is an optimism and a belief in our young people. We believe in our young people so that they can achieve more than they dreamed possible, and they will do so, again and again!
The best way, of course, to find the right school is to visit. Many parents comment that choosing a school is like choosing a house: it has to feel right. I would encourage you to visit us to experience the school, to meet the staff, me and most importantly, our students. You will be warmly welcomed.
I am honoured to be the Headteacher here and I look forward to welcoming you and your family to Chertsey High School.
