Message from the Headteacher

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope you are having a safe and relaxing summer break.

As we look towards the start of the Autumn term, I wanted to take this opportunity to confirm a few of our hopes and expectations.

The Prime Minister has made it very evident that he expects all children to return to school this Autumn. The school has paid careful attention to the advice provided on a regular basis by the government and public health England in preparation for opening the school for all students in September.

We aim to maintain year group bubbles and allow all students to attend their normal lessons. Our plans will significantly reduce face-to-face contact and will place an emphasis on maintaining hygienic practices. We will require students to take a personal responsibility for social distancing and central to our planning is the careful zoning of year groups and management of student movement around the school. This will require some changes to our normal procedures. In order to best prepare our students for these new expectations, over the coming weeks, I will be sending out more details concerning aspects of new policies and procedures. These changes will be in line with government advice and best practice to keep Chertsey High School a safe learning environment.

In the meantime I wish to reassure you that we expect to be fully functioning within the confines of the official guidance. The school day will have slightly staggered start and end times and students will have different entrances depending on their year. Our catering offer will still be fully functioning but with some changes to our menus in order to keep in line with Coronavirus restrictions. If a localised or national lockdown is again ordered we will return at that point to teaching by Microsoft teams. We will issue a video message on the 1 st September, “walking the site” and explaining each procedure for students to have a clear understanding of any logistical changes.

Please be assured that the school will be guided by a concern that the working environment will be safe both for staff and students.

I hope that you have a safe and relaxing remainder of the summer.

I look forward to welcoming you all back to Chertsey High School in September.

Yours faithfully,
Zelia Munnik
